THE MEDITERRANEAN NEEDS US. AND THE ANSWER STARTS AT SEA
Aulas Azules is an initiative of the Fundació Joves Navegants that was created to bring marine knowledge closer to people and activate change from direct experience in the territory.
From Portocolom, this project connects education, science and community, transforming the sea into a living space for learning where one can observe, understand and act.
Aulas Azules is part of the local area: it studies the biodiversity, challenges, and dynamics of the environment in which it operates. Through trips to the sea, workshops, and fieldwork, the community learns firsthand what is happening in its own ecosystem and how it can participate in its care.
A local initiative, designed to scale, aligned with the challenges of the Ocean Decade and with a clear idea:
You can only protect what you know .

OUR WAY OF OPERATING
STRATEGIC AXES
This project represents a significant opportunity for transformation, fostering educational opportunities linked to the sea through innovative and sustainable blue technologies. By integrating scientific knowledge with local expertise, it will enable the development of better tools to address climate change and channel collective commitment to protecting the Mediterranean and ensuring social well-being.

Challenges of the United Nations Ocean Decade
Aligning our work with the major international challenges defined by the United Nations in the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030) ensures that every local action, from monitoring with our electric fleet to workshops, field trips, and coastal studies, contributes to global goals. This link strengthens the project's institutional value, multiplies its impact, and positions it as a replicable model in the Mediterranean.
CAPABILITIES AND PARTICIPATION
We train young people, fishermen and the community in ocean science through Blue Classrooms, educational fleet and citizen science programs, connecting knowledge and action.
SOLUTIONS FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
We are driving decarbonization with electric fleets, measuring blue carbon in seagrass meadows, and developing climate mitigation and adaptation solutions.
MARINE POLLUTION
We reduce plastics and emissions through environmental education, citizen science, and sustainable modernization of the fishing fleet.
EQUITABLE OCEAN ECONOMY
We strengthen the value of local products and the blue economy by integrating fishermen into data collection and the transmission of traditional knowledge.
ECOSYSTEMS AND BIODIVERSITY
We monitor seagrass meadows and cetaceans as bioindicators, generating key data for the conservation of Mediterranean ecosystems.
Training, education and volunteering
We transformed our vessels into platforms for observing temperature, noise, and biodiversity, contributing to global knowledge as an experimental node.
