Galaxie brings generations together at the Illes Balears Clàssics

Galaxie finished second in the Esperit de Tradició class at the 31st Illes Balears Clàssics regatta, taking second place in each of the three races. It was a result for the whole crew to celebrate, alongside the memories of days spent sailing, learning and enjoying life on board together.

With Raimon Martínez at the helm, experienced sailors shared the deck with young sailors from Club Nàutic Portocolom and Club de Mar Mallorca who are continuing to develop their skills on the water. Years of experience and youthful enthusiasm came together with one shared aim: to sail as a team and give our best in every race.

Racing calls for focus, coordination and trust. Every manoeuvre is a team effort, with everyone playing a part. Over the course of the regatta, there were decisions to make and moments that demanded hard work and concentration, alongside questions, new lessons and plenty of laughter. Through it all, a shared love of sailing brought us together as one crew, whatever our age.

For Fundació Joves Navegants, experiences like these are at the heart of Galaxie’s role as a sail training vessel. Sailing together allows knowledge gained over many years to be passed on and gives those still learning the chance to put it into practice. It also teaches us to listen, take responsibility and understand how each person’s actions affect the whole crew.

Bringing generations together is part of how we help people connect with the sea. We want sailing to offer opportunities to learn and build friendships, and Galaxie to remain a place where people of different ages and experience can come together through a shared passion.

We came away with second place and plenty of shared memories. Each of the three races was also a chance to get to know one another better, work as a team and keep learning at sea.
