Science and community: sharing our work at Redeia’s Bosque Marino seminar

On 30 September and 1 October, we took part in Redeia’s third Bosque Marino Scientific Seminar, held at BBK Klima in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve in Bizkaia. The event brought together researchers, institutions and organisations to share their experience and discuss projects dedicated to protecting and restoring marine ecosystems.

At Fundació Joves Navegants, our work is guided by a clear purpose: to connect science and education with the community, giving more people the opportunity to learn about the sea and play a part in caring for it.

On the second day, Olivia Boraiko spoke in the session “Projects and initiatives making an impact on marine ecosystems”, presenting our work to build a living digital inventory of the seabed.

The initiative uses our electric vessels as platforms for observing, documenting and developing a better understanding of the marine environment. With TrueWorld Organization responsible for the project’s technology, we combine underwater observation, seabed mapping and environmental monitoring to gather information about marine habitats and conditions.

Underwater imagery, maps and environmental records provide the basis for accessible resources that bring this knowledge to a wider audience. Our aim is to produce useful information and share it with scientific, environmental and community organisations, as well as local residents.

This work reflects our foundation’s core mission: making the sea accessible to everyone. We want children, young people and older adults to have the opportunity to experience it, understand
