Galaxie sails from Portocolom to Palma ahead of the 44th Copa del Rey MAPFRE
Ahead of the start of the 44th Copa del Rey MAPFRE, Galaxie set sail for Palma from its home port at Club Nàutic Portocolom.

Ahead lay 45 nautical miles of sailing to the Real Club Náutico de Palma, host of one of the Mediterranean’s most iconic regattas.
But this time, the journey to the Copa was part of the experience itself.
45 nautical miles of learning at sea
On board Galaxie were students from the sailing school at Club Nàutic Portocolom, who had the opportunity to complete the passage aboard our 22-metre ketch, powered by a 100% electric propulsion system.
During the journey, the young sailors were able to put into practice the skills they had learned at sailing school and take part in a longer offshore passage, sharing both space and responsibilities with the crew.
It was an experience where learning, teamwork and sailing came together over the hours that separate Portocolom from Palma.
Because learning to sail does not only happen close to shore. It also means covering longer distances, understanding sea conditions, working as a team and becoming part of life on board.

A journey aboard a different kind of sailing yacht
Completing this passage aboard Galaxie added another dimension to the experience.
Today, the historic sailing yacht operates with a 100% electric propulsion system, the result of its conversion process, allowing it to navigate under motor without emissions, noise or vibrations.
It is an example of how a vessel with history can evolve by incorporating new technologies while also becoming a platform for education and awareness around the future of sailing.
For the students, the journey was also an opportunity to discover this transformation first-hand and experience a different way of connecting with the sea.

From Portocolom to the Copa del Rey
Arriving in Palma marked the beginning of a particularly important week for Fundació Joves Navegants.
Our participation in the 44th Copa del Rey MAPFRE, alongside the Real Club Náutico de Palma, once again brought education, sustainability and social action into one of the major events on the international sailing calendar.
That is why this journey was much more than a transfer between two ports.
It was a way of connecting our base in Portocolom with the Bay of Palma, introducing a new generation of sailors to one of the great stages of the sailing world, and beginning the Copa by doing what gives meaning to our project: learning, sharing and bringing the sea closer to more people.
45 nautical miles later, Galaxie was in Palma. Heading to the Copa.
