Phoenix One and Galaxie

A Technical Partnership from the Very Beginning

The story of Galaxie as an electric sailing yacht did not begin with an installation. It began with a decision.

When TrueWorld acquired the yacht with the aim of converting it to electric propulsion, the project had yet to become visible or prove its viability. It was a technical and strategic commitment made within a clear context: advancing the decarbonisation of the nautical sector as part of the energy transition being driven in the Balearic Islands.

At that point, Phoenix One came on board not simply as a supplier, but as a technical partner from the outset. The company was involved in the initial planning, feasibility assessment and execution of a complex conversion that required intervention in the vessel’s core systems.

From removing the diesel engine to defining the new electric system, Phoenix One has remained closely involved, contributing time, expertise and technical resources to a project whose future, at that stage, was far from guaranteed.

The starting point was clear: to completely replace a fossil-fuel propulsion system with an electric system capable of performing under real sailing conditions.

The first phase involved removing the combustion engine and all its associated systems. This required redesigning the vessel’s technical space, removing fuel circuits, reducing weight and preparing Galaxie for an entirely different architecture.

An electric propulsion system of approximately 80 kW was then installed, powered by a high-performance lithium energy storage system designed for marine propulsion, with sustained discharge capacity and operational stability.

The result is silent, vibration-free and emission-free navigation. The noise of the diesel engine has disappeared, while the vessel’s operational footprint has been significantly reduced.

The entire system is connected to a cloud-based platform that enables real-time monitoring of the motor, batteries and energy performance, supporting ongoing management and maintenance.

A Project within the Energy Transition

The conversion of Galaxie was carried out with support from a grant by the Regional Ministry for Energy Transition, as part of a clear strategic objective: to demonstrate the real-world viability of vessel electrification.

Galaxie is not simply a converted yacht. It is a real-world case study showing how existing vessels can be transformed to reduce their environmental impact.

Phoenix One also uses the project as a technical demonstration platform at international boat shows and industry events in cities such as Palma, Barcelona and Cannes, where Galaxie has become a tangible example of this transition.

From TrueWorld to Fundació Joves Navegants

Over time, Galaxie evolved from a technical project into an active platform for the work of Fundació Joves Navegants.

As part of the Love the Mediterranean initiative, the vessel is now used for expeditions at sea combining educational activities, scientific work and environmental awareness across the Mediterranean.

Phoenix One continues to support the project in this new phase, providing technical assistance, system monitoring and ongoing development of the technology installed on board, helping to ensure its long-term operation.

The conversion of Galaxie was not the result of a one-off intervention, but of a long-term working relationship.

Phoenix One has been part of the project from the beginning, contributing to key technical decisions and supporting its development through to its current operation.

Today, Galaxie sails under electric power because behind it lies engineering expertise, continuity and years of ongoing collaboration.
